A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to sell a stolen mobile phone belonging to Morgan McSweeney, the former chief of staff to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. The incident came to light after Mr McSweeney reported the theft to the police on October 20 last year.
Details of the Theft
Mr McSweeney dialled 999 to report that his phone had been stolen in Westminster. At the time, he described the device as a 'government device' but did not disclose his role as Sir Keir Starmer's chief of staff to the officers handling the case. He was issued a crime reference number, and the investigation was subsequently closed.
Arrest Made
Following a fresh inquiry, a suspect has now been arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and attempting to sell the phone. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrest, though further details remain limited as the investigation continues.
This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
