A 36-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly stripping naked in front of thousands of people attending a Mormon church service in Utah over the Easter weekend.
Mitchell Dean Anderson was apprehended by police on Saturday morning at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. According to a police affidavit, Anderson was seen completely disrobing in front of a large crowd, including children.
The incident occurred during the church's general conference, a worldwide gathering held twice a year. The event was being broadcast globally, though it is unclear if Anderson was visible on the live feed.
Church security intervened and covered Anderson with a blanket before police arrived. He was arrested on suspicion of lewdness involving a child, a misdemeanour. The motive for his actions remains unknown.
