Dawn M. Florio, the attorney representing Lil Tjay, communicated to The Associated Press that her client did not possess a firearm during the incident and has not been charged with any weapons-related offenses. She confirmed that Lil Tjay posted bond and was released from custody on Tuesday afternoon. The 24-year-old artist is a prominent figure in New York's South Bronx music scene, renowned for his distinctive sing-rapping technique and pop-hip-hop style layered over drill beats.

Historical Context of Migos Tragedy

This shooting event evokes painful memories for the Migos community. More than three years ago, Offset's cousin Takeoff, another integral member of Migos, was fatally shot at a Houston bowling alley. Takeoff was reportedly an innocent bystander caught in a dispute over a dice game. His tragic death added to a distressing list of fatal shootings involving hip-hop artists in recent years, including Nipsey Hussle, Pop Smoke, PnB Rock, and Young Dolph.

Following Takeoff's killing, the remaining Migos members, Offset and Quavo, have pursued separate paths. Quavo organized a summit against gun violence in 2024 to honor his nephew's memory and advocate for change. Meanwhile, Offset had already embarked on a solo career years prior, releasing three full-length albums: Father of Four in 2019, Set It Off in 2023, and Kiari in 2025.

Investigation Ongoing and Personal Background

Police indicated that one person sustained injuries in the valet area outside the casino, though the victim was not officially identified. The second individual detained at the scene has not been charged, and investigators are actively working to identify other parties involved in the incident.

Offset, born Kiari Kendrell Cephus, secretly married fellow rapper Cardi B in September 2017 in Atlanta. Their relationship has been publicly tumultuous, with Cardi B announcing she filed for divorce in 2024. The couple shares three children together.

Legacy of Migos and Offset's Solo Work

Before his solo endeavors, Offset achieved superstardom as part of Migos. The Atlanta-based trio is widely regarded as one of the most influential hip-hop groups of all time, celebrated for pioneering the rapid-fire triplet flow that significantly shaped the trap music genre. Their career launched with the 2013 hit Versace and included multiple multiplatinum singles such as Bad and Boujee, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, along with Stir Fry, Narcos, and T-Shirt. Migos released four studio albums before effectively concluding their group activities after Takeoff's death.

In interviews, Offset has described his solo work as a form of artistic rebellion and self-discovery. He told The Associated Press that Set It Off was an effort to bring rap back in a genre increasingly dominated by singing rappers, while Kiari represents his authentic self, free from external pressures.
