Police Release Footage of Justin Timberlake's 2024 Drunk Driving Arrest in the Hamptons

Authorities have made public an extensive video recording capturing the 2024 arrest of pop icon Justin Timberlake for driving under the influence in New York's affluent Hamptons region. The footage, spanning approximately eight hours, was released on Friday following a legal agreement between Sag Harbor Police and Timberlake's legal team.

Struggling with Sobriety Tests and Nervous Confessions

The video documents Timberlake's evident difficulties during field sobriety assessments administered by officers after he was pulled over in Sag Harbor. Police reported observing the singer run a stop sign and swerve out of his lane while driving his BMW in June 2024. Officers noted a distinct smell of alcohol when Timberlake exited his vehicle.

During the testing phase, Timberlake is seen attempting to walk heel-to-toe in a straight line and balance on one leg while expressing visible frustration. "These are like really hard tests," he tells the officers at one point. Later, he admits to feeling anxious, stating "I'm a little nervous" and explaining that his heart was racing during the encounter.

From World Tour to Police Station

When questioned by officers about his presence in the former whaling village, Timberlake initially responds "I'm on a world tour." After some hesitation, he clarifies his identity by stating "World tour. I'm Justin Timberlake." The singer revealed he had consumed one martini and was following friends home through the beach community located approximately 100 miles east of New York City.

Following his arrest, Timberlake expresses confusion from the back seat of the police vehicle, asking "Why are you arresting me?" At the police station, when informed he would be detained overnight, he responds with "I'm going to be here all night? You guys are wild, man." He specifically requests that officers keep the light on in his cell as they secure the door.

Legal Resolution and Public Disclosure

The video's release concludes a protracted legal dispute between Timberlake's representatives and Sag Harbor authorities. Initially, Timberlake's legal team had filed a lawsuit seeking to block the footage's disclosure, arguing it would constitute an invasion of privacy and cause "severe and irreparable harm" to his reputation through public ridicule.

However, in a joint filing on Friday, Timberlake's lawyers acknowledged the video "does not constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy" under New York's public information laws and consented to its release. Sag Harbor officials expressed satisfaction with the resolution, noting their commitment to complying with Freedom of Information Law requirements while addressing privacy and safety considerations through appropriate redactions.

Previous Legal Outcome and Consequences

Timberlake had previously pleaded guilty to impaired driving in September 2024 as part of a plea agreement that reduced his initial misdemeanor charge to a noncriminal traffic violation. The Tennessee-born entertainer agreed to several conditions including producing a public safety announcement about the dangers of drunk driving, paying a $500 fine, completing 25 hours of community service, and accepting a 90-day suspension of his driving license.

The Associated Press was among several media organizations that had formally requested the video's release through public records petitions. Timberlake's legal representatives did not provide immediate commentary when contacted about the footage's disclosure on Friday.
