A Tehran political adviser has indicated that Iran will not reach an agreement with US President Donald Trump and will instead wait until his presidency ends. The remarks, made by Majid Shakeri, adviser to Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, suggest a strategy of patience and ambiguity, according to a report by the Daily Mirror.

Shakeri stated: “Trump will not reach an agreement with us. We will accompany him until his term ends.” He added, “The path to victory is neither fighting nor a deal, it is managing the process of neither war nor peace, up to the point of victory. Publicly confirming negotiations with the US is sheer folly. The winning approach is denial, ambiguity and strategic patience.”
These comments come amid Trump’s claims that Iran is on the verge of financial collapse due to a US Navy blockade preventing oil sales. Trump said, “Yeah, they can make trouble, but they’re broke.”
Regional Talks
Despite the tough rhetoric, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said negotiations between Oman and Iran on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz have reached an advanced stage. This suggests the US may be excluded from talks due to Trump’s threats and insults.
Meanwhile, four people were killed after Yemen’s Houthi rebels attacked an unidentified commercial ship in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea. Anti-government protests continue across Iran, with flags burned and slogans shouted in Tehran over the weekend.
