Holly Hagan Opens Up About Grief and Cruel Trolls After Sister's Death
Holly Hagan has confessed she was deeply hurt by cruel trolls who questioned why she continued posting social media content just days after her sister's tragic death. The Geordie Shore star's younger sister Darci died at the age of 19, just 48 hours after taking crystal MDMA at an event in Manchester in October 2025.
Six months after her passing, Holly, who is expecting her second child next month, revealed to The Sun that while she has not received any formal grief counselling, she finds comfort in speaking to her sister after visiting a medium. 'I've always been a bit of a believer, but now I'm convinced. My sister came straight through to the medium, who said Darci spends a lot of time at my house, so now I make sure I speak to her so she knows that I know she's still around,' she said.
Holly, who shares two-year-old son Alpha-Jax with husband Jacob Blyth, also opened up about the 'nasty comments' she received following Darci's death. She explained that she felt compelled to 'keep it together' and continue working as an influencer so that her parents would not have to worry about their jobs or finances amid their grief.
'I felt like I was the one who needed to keep it together, so that everyone else could fall apart. I continued to work, so my mum and stepdad didn't have to, but in reality I was posting pre-recorded posts on social media,' she explained. However, this led to criticism from some trolls who posted messages such as: 'Your sister just died and you're posting this. It doesn't feel right.' Holly noted that while the comments were hurtful, those who made them later understood after she explained her reasoning.
The Tragic Night
Darci had gone to Manchester's Warehouse Project nightclub, where she mixed the drug into her drink. Within hours, she suffered two cardiac arrests, leaving her fighting for her life in hospital. Holly previously described how her worst fears were realised the moment she arrived at the hospital and saw the full extent of Darci's condition. Doctors told her that her sister had taken crystal MDMA during the night out, and unaware of the drug's deadly potential, the hours that followed proved fatal.
MDMA, often known as 'Molly' or 'Ecstasy', is a recreational 'party drug' that can leave users feeling happy, energised, and more sociable. It comes in several forms, including pills, powder, capsules, and crystals. Holly explained that while Darci had never taken MDMA in crystal form before, she had experimented with drugs in the past, including at events such as the music festival Creamfields.
'Darci went out that night and for the first time had taken the crystal version of MDMA, we know that she put an unknown quantity in her drink,' Holly explained. 'I'm not sure why she did, but the event she was going to, The Warehouse Project, it's a pretty drug-heavy event, I have been there myself, and I know what happens. My one regret is not messaging her saying, 'Are you taking anything tonight? What are you taking? Please be careful.''
'Some people will say she was reckless for taking drugs but in the realm of taking drugs, when I have spoken to her friends who have been out with her, and been to Creamfields with her and the festivals, festivals are rife for drug taking, we all know that. Her friends say she was always so sensible, she would never take a whole pill, she would take a quarter, and it was only at these kinds of events that she would do that.'
