German Tourist Dies After Cobra Bite in Egypt

A German tourist has died after being bitten by a cobra during a snake charmer performance at a hotel in Hurghada, Egypt, according to police. The 57-year-old man, who has not been identified, was on holiday with two relatives when the incident occurred in early April.

Details of the Incident

During the snake charmer's act, two snakes, believed to be cobras, were placed around the necks of audience members as part of the hotel's entertainment programme. The German tourist was bitten on the leg after one of the snakes crawled into his trousers. He showed "clear signs of poisoning" and required resuscitation, police in the southern German state of Bavaria reported.

The man was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died. An investigation has been launched by the Memmingen Criminal Police Inspectorate under the direction of the Memmingen Public Prosecutor's Office. The results of a toxicological examination are still pending.
