Foreign Office Warns Brits of Deadly Turkey Holiday Risks

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has issued a warning to British tourists about potential risks in Turkey, following reports of British deaths in the country. The advisory highlights dangers including road accidents, food poisoning, and terrorism.

According to the FCDO, British nationals have died in Turkey due to road traffic accidents, which are a leading cause of death among tourists. The office advises travellers to exercise caution on roads, as driving standards and safety regulations may differ from those in the UK.

Food poisoning is another significant risk, with the FCDO noting that some British tourists have fallen seriously ill after consuming contaminated food or drink. The advisory recommends avoiding tap water and ensuring food is thoroughly cooked.

The FCDO also warns of the ongoing threat of terrorism in Turkey, including from groups such as the PKK and Daesh. Attacks could be indiscriminate, targeting tourist areas, public transport, and other crowded places. Travellers are urged to remain vigilant and follow local security advice.

British tourists are advised to check the FCDO's latest travel advice before booking and during their stay. The FCDO also recommends taking out comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical treatment and repatriation in case of emergencies.
