A cellphone video released by the White House shows Renee Nicole Good calmly telling an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent that she was “not mad at you” seconds before she was fatally shot in Minneapolis. The footage, first posted by the partisan outlet Alpha News on X, was shared by Donald Trump’s White House Rapid Response account and Vice-President JD Vance.
The clip, lasting 47 seconds, captures the perspective of the ICE agent, later identified as Jonathan E Ross, a 10-year veteran of the agency. Good is seen sitting in the driver’s seat of a maroon Honda Pilot, stopped across a roadway with a siren blaring. As the agent walks past her window, she says: “That’s fine, dude. I’m not mad at you.” Good’s wife, Rebecca Good, is also heard speaking, saying: “We don’t change our plates every morning… You want to come at us? I say go get yourself some lunch, big boy.”
The agent then approaches the driver’s side, ordering Good to get out of the car. Good briefly reverses and drives forward, turning to the right as her wife says: “Drive, baby, drive.” The agent’s phone points skyward, and he exclaims “Whoa!” as the car moves slowly, brushing him slightly. Gunshots then ring out, with a voice saying “Fucking bitch” after the shooting. Good’s car drives away, and a loud crash is heard. A dog in the back seat was reportedly unhurt.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed the video’s authenticity, with spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin claiming that Good “was impeding law enforcement and weaponized her vehicle in an attempt to kill or cause bodily harm to federal law enforcement” and that the “officer was in fear of his own life”. Vice-President Vance asserted on X that the footage shows Ross “was endangered and he fired in self-defense”.
Good, an American mother of three, was killed during an immigration sweep in Minneapolis. Ross had previously been involved in an incident where he was dragged by a vehicle while arresting an undocumented immigrant with a criminal conviction for sexual assault. The video has sparked debate over the use of force, as many US law enforcement agencies restrict officers from firing at moving vehicles unless additional force is used by the driver.
