A former probation officer has been jailed after she was filmed kissing a convicted murderer during a prison visit. Bethany Dent-Reynolds, 27, was sentenced to eight months at Woolwich Crown Court after admitting misconduct in a public office.
Dent-Reynolds began a romantic relationship with Kieran Robinson, 26, after meeting him at HMP Belmarsh, Britain's most secure prison. Robinson is serving a 23-year sentence for murdering a teenager in West Dulwich, south London, in 2020.
The court heard that Dent-Reynolds continued to visit Robinson after he was transferred to HMP Lowdham Grange in Nottinghamshire. Surveillance footage showed the couple embracing and kissing before sitting together on sofas at the Category B prison.
The probation officer, from Forest Hill in southeast London, pleaded guilty to a charge of misconduct in a public office for maintaining an inappropriate relationship with Robinson between 15 February and 3 May 2024. A second charge of misconduct was dropped, and she denied a charge under the Computer Misuse Act.
The case highlights the strict rules governing relationships between prison staff and inmates, with Dent-Reynolds's actions described as a serious breach of trust.
