EU Entry Exit System Could Disrupt British Summer Holidays

British holidaymakers heading to the European Union this summer could face significant delays due to the new digital Entry/Exit System (EES), which has already caused queues of up to five hours at some borders. The system, launched last October, requires non-EU citizens, including UK nationals, to register biometric information such as fingerprints and facial scans upon entry and exit.

Airlines and airports have reported that the additional checks are leading to missed flights and planes departing with empty seats. Some carriers have called for the system to be suspended during the peak summer holiday period to avoid further disruption, as passengers are experiencing long waits and confusion over the new procedures.

The EES is designed to enhance security and streamline border control, but its implementation has been problematic. Travellers are advised to arrive at airports earlier than usual and ensure they have all necessary documents ready. The UK government has urged the EU to address the delays, warning that the situation could worsen as summer travel volumes increase.
