Daughter Pleads to Halt Father's Deportation to Nauru

Sara, whose father was released from indefinite immigration detention after Australia's high court ruled it unlawful in 2023, now fears he will be deported to Nauru. Her father is part of the NZYQ cohort, over 350 people who had visas cancelled on character grounds but cannot be returned to their home countries.

Last year, the Australian government signed a secret deal to deport members of this group to Nauru on 30-year visas. Sara describes Nauru as a place of 'final and lifelong punishment' and is pleading for her father not to be sent there.

In a podcast interview with Nour Haydar, Sara expressed her fears that her father could be next for deportation. The deal has raised concerns about the treatment of individuals who have already spent years in detention.
