A 20-year-old cybersecurity student has died after being stabbed in Leicester city centre, police have confirmed. Khaleed Oladipo, a second-year student at De Montfort University, was attacked just after 5pm on Tuesday and later died in hospital from a single stab wound to the chest.
An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody. Investigators believe Mr Oladipo was involved in an altercation with another man before the stabbing; the suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
In a statement released by Leicestershire Police, Mr Oladipo's family described him as an “extremely loved son, brother, uncle, boyfriend and friend”. They added: “Khaleed was a good boy who loved his family. He was in his second year at university, and we were so proud of him. One of his main passions was football and he had played since the age of four. He was an Arsenal supporter and we believe he was on his way home to watch the game later that night when he was stabbed and killed.”
The East Midlands Ambulance Service took Mr Oladipo to Leicester Royal Infirmary, where he died shortly after arrival. The university’s vice-chancellor, Professor Katie Normington, said the institution was “devastated” by the loss and was offering support to students, staff and the victim’s family.
Police have appealed for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward. The incident caused significant disruption, with several road closures in the city centre while forensic examinations were carried out.
