An episode of BBC's Escape to the Country saw couple Alice and Dave searching for a new home in Gloucestershire, but their dream was quickly dashed when they identified a major flaw in one property.
The retired vicar and her husband had a budget of £650,000 and wanted a two-bedroom home with a garage and garden for their dogs. Presenter Sonali Shah showed them a property in Randwick, which initially impressed Alice with its Cotswold stone appearance.
However, during a self-guided tour, Alice noticed there was no downstairs toilet. She told Dave: 'If you've got visitors to a house, you don't want them all traipsing upstairs to use the loo.' Dave agreed, calling it a problem.
Sonali noted that the couple had space to build a downstairs loo, but Alice was also put off by the garden's maintenance requirements and lack of fencing for their dogs. She said: 'It's got things that I don't want to take on. The garden being one of them.'
Ultimately, none of the properties shown were suitable, but the couple later made an offer on a thatched cottage they had seen before filming ended. Escape to the Country continues weekdays on BBC One at 3pm.
