Jason Faulkner, who served as a pallbearer at his sister Scarlett Faulkner’s funeral, has died just two days later, leaving his family in profound grief. His cousin Melissa McCarthy broke the news on social media, writing: “My heart, 2 days after burying your sister Scarlett, you are gone now Jason, her lovely brother. What are the family gonna do?”
Scarlett Faulkner, 29, died in hospital after being attacked in Birdhill, County Limerick, on March 21. She was laid to rest on April 17 at St Munchin’s Church, with hundreds attending. A teenage girl and a woman in her 40s have appeared in court over the attack. During the eulogy, Scarlett’s sister Victoria vowed: “We will get you the justice you deserve.”
Relatives have asked people to keep “Banny and Mary”, the parents of Scarlett and Jason, in their prayers. Another family member wrote: “Sad world we live in – poor Banny and Mary buried their daughter Scarlett two days ago and now their son. God keep them strong.”
Tributes flooded social media, with one mourner saying: “This is just beyond devastating. How much heartache can this family take?” The cause of Jason’s death has not been confirmed by the family.
The Faulkner family, who also remembered Scarlett’s young daughter Oceanna, now face the unimaginable pain of losing two children in quick succession. The community has rallied around them, offering support and condolences.
