A family has been left heartbroken after a man died just two days after carrying his sister's coffin at her funeral. Jason Faulkner, whose sister Scarlett was killed following an attack in Ireland, passed away shortly after laying her to rest.
Scarlett Faulkner, 29, died in hospital after being assaulted in the village of Birdhill, County Limerick, on 21 March. Her funeral took place on 17 April at St Munchin's Church in Limerick, where Jason served as a pallbearer. A teenage girl and a woman in her 40s have appeared in court in connection with the attack.
Jason's cousin, Melissa McCarthy, confirmed his death on social media, writing: 'Two days after burying your sister Scarlett, you're gone now Jason. The laughs we had, oh Jason what are the family gonna do?' She added: 'No doubt Scarlett Faulkner was there to meet you – together again forever.'
Another family member also posted: 'Poor Banny and Mary buried their daughter Scarlett two days ago and now their son. God may mind them and keep them strong.' The cause of Jason's death has not been disclosed.
Scarlett's sister, Victoria, delivered a eulogy at the funeral, saying: 'You have left a big hole in each and everyone of our hearts but you also touched the hearts of many others. You were a good mother, daughter, sister, friend to us all. You have left us with a beautiful little girl, Oceanna.' She added: 'We will get you the justice you deserve.'
