British Teenager Found Dead in Sea at Gran Canaria Holiday Resort
A 15-year-old British tourist girl has been found dead in the sea near a marina in the popular holiday destination of Gran Canaria, sparking a major police investigation. The grim discovery was made on Saturday morning, March 28, after the teenager's mother had reported her missing to authorities.
Discovery Near Puerto Rico Marina
The body was found floating approximately 200 metres from the coast between Puerto Base marina and Balito beach, a rocky cove in the south-west of Gran Canaria. Coastguard officials recovered the body and brought it to dry land following multiple emergency calls from horrified witnesses who spotted the tragic scene.
The teenager had been staying with her family in a holiday apartment in the Barranco Agua La Perra area, very close to the tourist resort in the municipality of Mogan. Initial reports suggested the girl had failed to meet her family as planned at 8pm on Friday near Amadores Beach, prompting her mother to contact emergency services.
Police Investigation Underway
The Civil Guard is leading the ongoing investigation into the teenager's death, with detectives confirming that "all theories" are currently being considered. Although the body was initially believed to be that of a homeless person, police quickly made the connection to the missing British tourist and called her mother in to assist with identification.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place in the coming hours as authorities work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
