Four members of a British family, including two teenage boys, have been found dead in their home in the affluent Perth suburb of Mosman Park in a suspected murder-suicide, Western Australian police have confirmed.
Emergency services were called to the property on Mott Close at 8.15am on Friday after a person known to the family raised the alarm. Officers discovered the bodies of a 50-year-old man, a 49-year-old woman, and two boys aged 14 and 16. Two dogs and a cat were also found dead at the scene.
Homicide detective Jessica Securo said police were treating the deaths as a murder-suicide after a note was found at the house. She noted that there were no signs of violence and no weapon appeared to have been used. The family had no history of domestic violence with police.
Both children had “significant health challenges” and had been in contact with care services, Securo said, declining to provide further details for privacy reasons. At least one of the boys attended Christ Church Grammar School, a prestigious private school, and was enrolled in its Peter Moyes Centre, which supports children with autism and learning difficulties.
Neighbours reported seeing support workers regularly visiting the home. One neighbour described the teenagers as “non-verbal” and said he would often see them in the swimming pool. Police are investigating whether the children’s health issues were a factor in the incident.
The family’s bodies were found in different locations within the property. Police are working to establish a timeline of events, as it is unclear when the family was last seen alive. The school’s principal, Alan Jones, expressed condolences and said the school would not release a statement while the police investigation continues.
