A British man with a criminal past who became a TikTok content creator has reportedly been detained in Vietnam. Sam Walker, who has dozens of convictions for more than 130 offences, is believed to have been taken into custody on Saturday, April 4, according to a family friend.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is aware of Walker's alleged detention and is liaising with local authorities. It remains unclear why he was detained. A video posted on his TikTok account appears to show him being placed in a police vehicle in Hanoi.
Walker previously appeared at Liverpool Crown Court in January, where a charge of sending a communication threatening serious harm was dropped. The court heard he had been stabbed and shot, causing him to miss an earlier hearing. In 2024, he was also detained in Sierra Leone after claiming to have fled the UK following a separate arrest.
Walker maintains he went to Sierra Leone to help children living in poverty. At the time, the FCDO confirmed it supported a British man in the country and was in contact with local authorities.
