Sam Walker, a British individual with a criminal background who transitioned into a TikTok content creator, has reportedly been detained in Vietnam. According to sources, a video posted on his TikTok account appears to show him being arrested by police officers in the capital city of Hanoi.
Details of the Reported Detention
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has confirmed awareness of Walker's alleged detention in Vietnam. A family friend informed the Liverpool Echo that he was detained on Saturday, April 4, 2026. The FCDO is believed to be in communication with local authorities regarding the situation, though the specific reasons for his detention remain unclear.
Video Evidence and Past Incidents
The footage on TikTok purportedly depicts Walker claiming to be followed by a police officer before being approached and placed into a police vehicle. This incident follows a pattern of legal troubles for Walker, who has dozens of convictions for over 130 offences. In January 2026, he appeared at Liverpool Crown Court, where a charge of sending a communication threatening serious harm was dropped. During that hearing, it was revealed he had been "stabbed and shot," causing him to miss a previous court appearance due to injuries treated in A&E.
Previous Detention in Sierra Leone
In 2024, Walker was reportedly detained in Sierra Leone after traveling there in March of that year. He stated he had fled the UK following bail after a separate arrest, allegedly chartering a private aircraft and using a speedboat to cross the Mediterranean to evade border controls after his passport was confiscated. Walker maintained he went to Sierra Leone to assist children living in poverty, posting on TikTok and Instagram: "I'm going to the slums to get these kids their operations so they can see their families again."
However, a friend named Samuel contacted the Echo to warn about Walker's alleged detention in Sierra Leone, saying he was arrested during a peaceful protest and jailed. In a video from that time, Walker declared: "I will happily do prison. I don't give a s**t. You can put me in the most violent, filthy, unpredictable jail in the continent of Africa, and I promise you I will come out with my head held high." The FCDO previously stated they supported a British man in Sierra Leone and were in contact with local authorities.
Current Situation and Ongoing Developments
As of now, the circumstances surrounding Walker's detention in Vietnam are under investigation. The FCDO continues to monitor the situation closely, emphasizing their role in liaising with Vietnamese authorities. Walker's social media activity, including live streams and videos from Vietnam prior to his reported arrest, adds complexity to the case, highlighting his controversial persona and history of legal issues.
