Police in Tenerife are investigating the death of a British man who allegedly stole a car less than 24 hours after arriving on the island. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at the San Eugenio shopping centre in Costa Adeje, where the man is said to have taken a Mitsubishi car, injuring a woman inside as he drove off.
According to Spanish newspaper Diario de Avisos, the man crashed the stolen vehicle on the TF-1 motorway and then attempted to steal two more cars without success. He fled on foot along the motorway before jumping over a barrier.
At around 7pm, he was found dead on a roundabout on the outskirts of Los Cristianos, wearing only a pair of shorts. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
Reports identify the man as a 30-year-old from Lanarkshire, Scotland, who was on holiday with two friends. They told investigators he could be “unpredictable” when drunk. He had arrived in Tenerife the previous day and was wearing a bracelet for the resort where he was due to stay but had not yet spent a night there.
