West Ham United have confirmed that Nuno Espírito Santo will continue as head coach following the club's relegation from the Premier League. The Portuguese manager held discussions with the board after the team's demotion was confirmed on Sunday, despite a 3-0 victory at home against Leeds United. Nuno has been at the helm since September last year.
Board Confirms Commitment
"We held meetings with head coach Nuno Espírito Santo early this week and are pleased to confirm that he has expressed his continued commitment to the club – as we have to him," West Ham stated in an official announcement. "Nuno made it very clear that he is highly motivated for the challenge of guiding West Ham United back to the top flight at the first time of asking. That must be the unquestionable goal for next season."
Proven Championship Experience
Nuno has previous experience in the EFL Championship, having secured 99 points to win the title with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2018. This successful campaign demonstrates his capability to lead a team to promotion. The board believes that despite the painful outcome on Sunday, there have been broader signs of improvement and progress in recent months, and they want Nuno to continue developing that progress.
More details are expected to follow shortly.
