President Donald Trump launched a blistering attack on radio host Charlamagne tha God on Truth Social early on Sunday, calling him a 'racist sleazebag' and a 'Low IQ individual'. The outburst came after Charlamagne, whose real name is Lenard McKelvey, suggested on Fox News that Trump's MAGA base might pivot to a more traditional conservative candidate over the Epstein Files controversy.
Appearing on Lara Trump's show 'My View', Charlamagne claimed that traditional Republicans could use the Epstein Files issue to take back the party. 'I think there is a political coup going on right now in the Republican Party,' he said. 'I think this Epstein thing is going to be a way for traditional conservatives to take their party back.'
Trump did not specify which comment provoked his response, but his post on Truth Social was scathing. He wrote: 'The very wonderful and talented Lara Trump, whose show is a big ratings success, put racist sleazebag Charlamagne “The God” (Why is he allowed to use the word “GOD” when describing himself? Can anyone imagine the uproar there would be if I used that nickname?).'
The president has been sensitive about the Epstein Files, which he promised to release but has not. Senior officials have said there is no 'client list', and Epstein died by suicide in 2019. Some MAGA supporters have accused Trump of failing to keep his promise, fuelling conspiracy theories about high-profile individuals being protected.
Trump has denied any wrongdoing regarding his past friendship with Epstein, though a recent Wall Street Journal report claimed he sent Epstein a 'bawdy' birthday letter. Trump has sued the Journal for libel. Charlamagne argued that the situation could allow figures like Nikki Haley to appeal to disgruntled MAGA voters.
