ITV's This Morning was cut short by 90 minutes on Monday, July 20, to make way for a special news programme covering Andy Burnham's succession as Prime Minister. The beloved chat show, which usually airs live from 10am to 12.30pm, ended at 11am to accommodate the ITV News special.
Announcement Made Live On Air
Host Alison Hammond, presenting alongside Dermot O'Leary, revealed the schedule change minutes into the show. She told viewers: "Hello and welcome to your Monday's This Morning. It's lovely to have your company. We have a slightly shorter show for you today but there is still lots to go through." Co-host Dermot added: "There's lots going on."
Political Transition Coverage
The ITV News special was set to introduce the incoming Prime Minister after his confirmation and appointment. Andy Burnham becomes the UK's fifth Prime Minister in four years. Outgoing PM Keir Starmer delivered his final address in Downing Street at around 11.15am before visiting King Charles at Buckingham Palace, accompanied by Burnham.
Loose Women Also Affected
Loose Women, which normally follows This Morning, has also been hit by a scheduling shake-up and will be off air for several weeks. On Friday, July 17, presenter Kaye Adams announced the summer break alongside co-hosts GK Barry, Oti Mabuse, and Kelle Bryan. Adams said: "We're done for the summer. We will not be gone for long though, we'll be back in September. For now, have a fabulous weekend, a fabulous summer and we'll see you very soon!"
