A single mother from Lewisham who took part in the Channel 5 show Rich House Poor House has pledged to start her own business after experiencing life in a £4million mansion. Skye Walker, a cleaner supporting three children on just £170 a week, swapped homes and budgets with the wealthy Sethard-Wright family from Bromley.
The Walkers enjoyed private swimming lessons in the indoor pool, used a new computer for homework, and received private maths tuition. Skye said seeing her children 'being kids again' without neighbour complaints was transformative. 'Where I live, they can't play in the garden and have fun,' she told the Daily Mail.
Meanwhile, businesswoman Belinda Sethard-Wright, 46, struggled to stretch her new £170 weekly budget after her usual £1,600. She cut out wine from the weekly shop and ran out of money by Friday, leaving her with a 'hollow hole' in her chest. She called Skye a 'wonder woman' for managing on so little.
Skye, who has experienced homelessness and relied on food banks, said the experience convinced her that money can make you happy. 'I want my own house. If my friends or family are homeless, at least I've got space for them,' she said. She now aims to build a better life for her children through hard work and education.
