Senior Liberal frontbencher Anne Ruston has expressed confidence that her party can recover from its poor showing in the South Australian election, where it has so far secured only four seats. Speaking on Sky News, Ruston acknowledged the party faced significant challenges but insisted the Liberal Party's values could still resonate with voters.
“The Liberal party has got a lot of work to do to rebuild the trust of Australians,” she said. “I absolutely believe that we can do that. The values of the Liberal party will resonate, and do resonate with Australians.”
Ruston also downplayed the rise of One Nation, which achieved its best result since 1998 in the state poll, suggesting the party’s support would likely fade. “We’ve seen the rise and fall of One Nation on numerous occasions around the country,” she said.
Her comments come as senior Labor figures, including federal minister Amanda Rishworth, warned against complacency and called for mainstream parties to address voter grievances with clear policy responses.
