Labour has selected Camden council leader Sagal Abdi-Wali as its candidate in the by-election to replace former Prime Minister Keir Starmer as MP for Holborn & St Pancras.
Abdi-Wali, who came to Britain as a child refugee, was officially chosen as Labour's pick for the London constituency. The by-election was triggered by Starmer's resignation as an MP.
Expected contest
She is expected to face Green Party leader Zack Polanski in a tough contest to win the seat.
The announcement comes as Labour moves to fill the vacancy left by the former Prime Minister's departure from Parliament.
