A 50-year-old individual has been arrested and charged following a social media post related to the death of former Member of Parliament Ann Widdecombe. The post was made after Ms Widdecombe, aged 78, was discovered deceased at her residence in Haytor on Dartmoor, Devon, on Thursday of last week.

Devon and Cornwall Police received a report on Saturday, July 11, regarding the online post. According to a spokesperson for the force, the report prompted further assessment, leading to the arrest and charging of the 50-year-old. The spokesperson stated: “We received reports on Saturday July 11 relating to a post made online. Following further assessment, a 50-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
