Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Russia has 'no intention' of ending the war, as combat operations persist along the frontline. In a recent address, Zelensky emphasised that Moscow shows no signs of de-escalation, despite ongoing international diplomatic efforts.
Ukraine Proposes 'Airport Ceasefire'
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has proposed an 'airport ceasefire' with Russia, a concept that Zelensky has already discussed with several European leaders. This initiative is part of a broader European peace effort aimed at halting hostilities, at least temporarily, to facilitate humanitarian corridors and potential negotiations.
Sanctions Over Deportation of Children
Both the United Kingdom and the European Union have imposed sanctions on numerous individuals and entities implicated in the forced deportation, indoctrination, and militarisation of Ukrainian children. Reports indicate that over 20,000 children have been transferred to Russia or occupied territories since the start of the conflict.
EU Rejects Putin's Mediator Suggestion
The EU's foreign policy chief has rejected Russian President Vladimir Putin's suggestion of former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder as a mediator for European security talks. The official cited Schröder's conflict of interest due to his close ties with Putin and his roles in Russian state-owned companies.
Zelensky Discusses Captives with UAE President
Zelensky also held talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, focusing on assistance for returning Ukrainians from Russian captivity. The leaders discussed ongoing defence cooperation, including Ukraine's expertise in countering drone warfare.
The conflict shows no signs of abating, with both sides entrenched in their positions. The proposed 'airport ceasefire' remains a tentative step towards de-escalation, but Zelensky's warning underscores the deep mistrust between the warring parties.
