Bridgerton Star Yerin Ha Lands Major Stage Role in 'Masterpiece' Drama

Bridgerton actress Yerin Ha has swiftly secured her next high-profile project after captivating audiences worldwide with her performance in the hit Netflix series' fourth season. Ha, who portrayed the humble servant Sophie Baek opposite Luke Thompson's Benedict Bridgerton, is set to return to the theatre in a production hailed as a masterpiece.

From Netflix to the Stage: A Swift Transition

Just days after the second half of Bridgerton's latest season premiered on Netflix on 26th February, it was confirmed that Ha will star in Jean Genet's iconic 1947 drama, The Maids. The production is scheduled to run at the St. Ann's Warehouse theatre in Brooklyn from 17th May to 14th June, following a successful stint at London's Donmar Warehouse last October to November.

This announcement means Bridgerton fans have only a brief opportunity to witness Ha's newest role, and they must travel to New York to do so. However, theatre enthusiasts are in for a treat, as Ha will be joined by an impressive cast including Phia Saban from House of the Dragon and Olivier Award nominee Lydia Wilson, recently seen in Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue.

A Contemporary Reimagining for the Digital Age

The play is being directed by Kip Williams, known for his acclaimed adaptation of The Picture of Dorian Gray starring Sarah Snook. Williams' new interpretation of The Maids promises to reset the classic story for the digital age, offering a timely parable about modern identity and the destructive desire to emulate and annihilate idols.

In this production, Saban and Wilson will portray the titular maids, Solange and Claire, while Ha takes on the role of their mistress, Madame. A synopsis reveals that the maids, with their abusive influencer employer away, act out dark fantasies, role-playing to the point of murder, blurring the lines between performance and reality.

Critical Acclaim and Fan Excitement

The Daily Mail has praised the play as wildly extravagant and superbly done, while The Guardian called it exhilarating in rave reviews. For fans unable to attend the New York run, Ha's other notable roles include parts in the Halo series on Paramount+, Netflix's Australian survival thriller The Survivors, and a recurring role in HBO's Dune: Prophecy.

Bridgerton remains available for streaming on Netflix, where Ha's portrayal of Sophie Baek, who marries Benedict by the season's end, continues to draw viewers. This stage role marks a significant step in her burgeoning career, showcasing her versatility from period romance to intense dramatic theatre.
