Vernon Kay Returns to BBC Radio 2 with 'Bad News' After Family Holiday
Vernon Kay's 'Bad News' on BBC Radio 2 Return

Vernon Kay has shared some unfortunate news with his BBC Radio 2 colleague Gary Davies after returning from a family holiday in the Caribbean. The 51-year-old presenter, who recently enjoyed a luxurious getaway with his wife Tess Daly and their daughters Phoebe and Amber, revealed he had pulled his back while lifting furniture, potentially delaying a planned golf game.

Holiday Interrupted by Injury

During his Monday morning return to BBC Radio 2, Vernon was questioned by stand-in presenter Gary Davies about his vacation activities. Gary specifically inquired whether Vernon had managed to play much golf during his time off. This prompted Vernon to deliver what he described as "bad news" to his colleague.

"I've got some bad news Gary," Vernon explained. "I was lifting furniture on Friday, I've pulled my back. Chiropractor this week."

Golf Plans in Jeopardy

The revelation immediately put their planned golf outing in doubt. Gary responded by asking if they would need to delay their game, to which Vernon joked that proceeding might guarantee Gary a victory given his current physical condition.

Gary, who has been filling in on the Breakfast Show since Scott Mills' departure, humorously suggested they should play anyway, stating: "Then let's go out. It's the only chance I'll ever get."

Vernon expressed concern about their local course not having buggies available, which would make playing difficult with his back injury. However, Gary assured him they could secure transportation, revealing his own physical limitations: "We do. Because I'm also a little bit crocked, I've got a dodgy achilles, a dodgy knee, so I've been buggying around."

Recovery and Future Plans

Vernon concluded they would need to "see how the chiropractor goes" before making definitive plans, though he expressed enthusiasm about playing given the beautiful weather conditions. The Met Office has forecast temperatures potentially reaching 19°C in the coming days, creating ideal conditions for outdoor activities.

The conversation took an amusing turn when Gary mentioned that fellow Radio 2 presenter Trevor Noah was also "waiting to play" against Vernon. While Vernon claimed to have "already beat" Trevor, Gary insisted Trevor was currently in excellent form, having recently shot seven over par for the first time in his life.

A surprised Vernon responded: "Wow, maybe I'll stick with the bad back until his form dips."

Tess Daly's Holiday Highlights

During their Caribbean vacation, Tess Daly shared numerous photographs on social media showcasing her swimwear brand, Naia Beach. The former Strictly Come Dancing co-host, who left the show alongside Claudia Winkleman in December, wore a high-leg one-piece and matching long-sleeved minidress from her collection.

Tess captioned her post: "Away for a few days, wearing @naia_beach on repeat," which attracted enthusiastic responses from fellow celebrities. Claudia Winkleman and broadcaster Kirsty Gallacher posted heart emojis, while reality star Vicky Pattison commented: "YESSSSS BABE," and presenter Angela Scanlon declared: "SAMBA LEGS."

Naia Beach, which Tess co-founded with longtime friend Gayle Lawton in 2021, has recently expanded beyond swimwear into activewear collections. The holiday provided valuable family time for the couple and their daughters while also serving as promotional opportunity for Tess's business venture.

As Vernon awaits his chiropractic appointment, Radio 2 listeners can expect further updates on whether his back injury will ultimately prevent him from taking to the golf course with colleagues Gary Davies and Trevor Noah.
