Ukraine's Covert Space Missions Unveiled Amid Ongoing Conflict

A senior Ukrainian lawmaker has revealed that the country conducted two previously undisclosed space-intelligence missions during the war with Russia, marking an unprecedented move for a nation engaged in active combat. According to MP Fedir Venislavskyi, operatives from Ukraine's military intelligence agency launched carrier rockets from Ukrainian territory on separate occasions, reaching altitudes of over 100 kilometres in the first mission and 204 kilometres in the second. Both launches were recorded by technical monitoring systems, he stated in an interview, highlighting that this demonstrates Ukraine's ability to counter hostile systems operating in space.

In a separate development, local authorities reported that an elderly woman and her daughter were hospitalised after Russia launched a fresh attack on Ukraine's eastern Kharkiv region. Zelensky Highlights Unmanned Platform Success

President Zelensky claimed that Ukrainian forces successfully retook land under Russia's control using only ground robots and drones, marking a historic battlefield first. He stated on X that an enemy position was taken exclusively by unmanned platforms, with occupiers surrendering and the operation conducted without infantry or losses on Ukraine's side. Over 22,000 missions using ground robotic systems have been carried out in the past three months, saving lives by deploying robots into dangerous areas instead of soldiers.

Economic Warnings and Inflation Concerns

Ukraine's central bank governor, Andriy Pyshnyi, warned that higher oil prices caused by the war in the Middle East could raise inflation rates in Ukraine by 1.5 to 2.8 percentage points. The National Bank of Ukraine aims to lower inflation to 5 per cent in three years, using all available tools to meet this target. Pyshnyi noted that prices have already started to rise and that secondary effects, such as on fertilizer prices, will be significant. He is part of a Ukrainian delegation attending IMF and World Bank meetings to keep Russia's war on the agenda.

Many sympathised with those avoiding service, particularly men with families, citing fears of a "one-way ticket" to the front. Others stressed the duty to fight, with debates on how the army could be better organised. The psychological toll of the conflict was highlighted, noting exhaustion among soldiers and the fear of being sent to dangerous areas.
