Donald Trump has claimed that King Charles “probably would have helped” the United States with Iran, in another attack on Sir Keir Starmer and NATO. Speaking during the King’s state visit to Washington, the US president said the monarch was a “phenomenal representative for his country” and suggested he would have differed in his approach to the conflict from the British Prime Minister.
Trump's Remarks on the King
“The King loves his country, and he's a great king, and he's a great friend of mine. And I think if it were up to him, he would have probably helped us with Iran,” Trump told reporters. The comments came as part of a broader critique of NATO, with Trump expressing disappointment that the alliance had not done more in Ukraine and Iran.
Reaction to King's Congress Speech
Trump was also asked about the King’s address to the US Congress, where Charles argued forcefully in favour of the NATO alliance—a stance Trump has repeatedly criticised. The president did not directly respond to the King’s remarks but reiterated his view that allies should contribute more financially.
The King’s state visit continues, with further engagements scheduled. More to follow.
