Video footage of Justin Timberlake’s arrest in the Hamptons in 2024 has been released, showing the singer struggling with field sobriety tests. The footage, which runs roughly eight hours, was published on Friday after Sag Harbor police and Timberlake’s lawyers agreed to disclose a redacted version.
In the video, Timberlake tells officers that the tests, which required him to walk heel-to-toe and stand on one leg, were “really hard”. The pop star was pulled over after police said he ran a stop sign, veered out of his lane, and got out of his BMW smelling of alcohol. He told officers he had consumed one martini and was following friends home.
The release comes after Timberlake’s lawyers had sued to block the footage, arguing it would “devastate” his privacy and cause “severe and irreparable harm” to his reputation. However, in a joint filing with the village, they acknowledged the video did not constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy under state law and agreed to its release.
Timberlake pleaded guilty to impaired driving in September 2024, about three months after his arrest. As part of the plea deal, his initial misdemeanour charge was reduced to a noncriminal traffic violation. He was fined $500, ordered to complete 25 hours of community service, and had his licence suspended for 90 days.
Sag Harbor officials said they were pleased the matter had been resolved and that they were able to comply with state public records law. The village’s lawyer, Vincent Toomey, provided a statement noting that material from police records is reviewed and redacted to address safety and privacy concerns.
