Susan Boyle, the singer who shot to fame on Britain's Got Talent in 2009, still lives in the modest council house in Bathgate, Scotland, where she grew up. Despite an estimated net worth of £22 million, the 61-year-old has chosen to stay in her childhood home, which she now owns, making only minor renovations.
In a 2020 interview, Boyle showed off her home, which she has lived in for nearly 60 years. She bought the property next door to create more space, but otherwise has kept changes minimal. 'It's best to be grounded and with your roots,' she said. 'It keeps you grounded and prevents you from saying things maybe you shouldn't say.'
The singer's living room features new wallpaper and carpet, along with ornaments of angels, rabbits and cats. Her piano room is filled with religious artefacts and musical memorabilia, including a framed record marking one million sales of her albums. A favourite item is a 'dream' trinket, reflecting her motto: 'Follow your dreams.'
Boyle's kitchen, recently renovated, replaced a tiny space 'where you hadn't room to swing a cat.' She also converted her former bedroom, once shared with two sisters, into a dressing room. 'There used to be nine of us in it,' she recalled. 'Three sisters used to sleep in what is now my dressing room.'
Despite her wealth, Boyle remains humble. 'I couldn't do anything too extravagant or over the top because I have got my parents,' she said. 'My parents will probably come back and haunt me. It's good to stay grounded.'
