Scarlett Thomas, the 17-year-old daughter of actor Ryan Thomas and former Coronation Street star Tina O'Brien, has spoken out against accusations that she is a 'nepo baby' and addressed the hate comments she receives online. The teenager, who has appeared in Waterloo Road and signed a record deal, insists her success is down to her own efforts and the guidance of her family, not their fame.
In an interview on the Ami Charlize's Private Story podcast, Scarlett said she does not fully understand the term 'nepo baby' and dismissed claims that her family has simply placed her in opportunities. 'They've not put me in places, they've just taught me and I'm so grateful that I've had that,' she explained, adding that her parents have passed down their knowledge and experience.
Scarlett also addressed the negativity she faces, attributing much of it to jealousy. 'My family have taught me that this is gonna happen, I know it's a standard thing that happens. Loads of it comes from jealousy as well,' she said. She noted that people have watched her grow up and may not realise how old she is now, leading to criticism of her choices.
Her father Ryan previously praised her achievements on his family podcast, At Home With The Thomas Brothers, revealing that she had signed with a record label and would be flying to Nashville to record with top music producer Julian Bunetta. 'It's just crazy to think that she's going to be in that studio in Nashville, where music is basically originating from,' he said, expressing pride in her journey.
