Late-night television host Jimmy Kimmel launched a scathing critique of President Donald Trump during his recent monologue, focusing on a broken campaign promise and a notable spelling error. Kimmel, known for his sharp political commentary, branded Trump as the "stopidest president of all time" in a segment that blended humour with pointed criticism.
Kimmel Targets Trump's Gas Price Reversal
In the opening of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the comedian highlighted Trump's apparent contradiction regarding fuel costs. Kimmel referenced a Truth Social post from March 12, where Trump boasted about rising oil prices amid the United States and Israel's conflict with Iran, stating, "The United States is the largest Oil Producer in the World, by far, so when oil prices go up, we make a lot of money."
Kimmel responded with incredulity, noting, "The man who campaigned on the promise he would get gas prices under $2 a gallon is now trying to convince us that higher prices are better." He added a witty remark, saying, "You know, you hear the term 'gaslighting' a lot, but rarely when it comes to actual gas," drawing laughter from the audience over the ironic twist on Trump's energy policy stance.
Spelling Error Sparks Mockery
The host then turned his attention to a glaring typo in the same Trump post. Trump had written, "BUT, of far greater interest and importance to me, as President, is stoping (sic) an evil Empire, Iran, from having Nuclear Weapons." Kimmel read this aloud and quipped, "That's right. He's 'stoping' the evil empire. He really is the 'stopidest' president of all time," cleverly playing on the misspelling to emphasise his critique of Trump's intelligence.
Kimmel Criticises Trump's Priorities
Later in the monologue, Kimmel expanded his criticism to Trump's activities amidst global turmoil. He blasted the president for spending time with controversial YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, despite ongoing issues like war, inflation, and political instability. Kimmel told viewers, "And with all this going on, with all these problems, all this instability, war, inflation, Epstein, you name it, you can see that, for Trump, worrying about this is starting to take a toll."
A video was shown of Trump and Paul dancing to the Village People's "YMCA," which Kimmel used to segue into a new segment titled "Real Moments in Presidementia." This segment featured a compilation of clips from a Trump speech in Kentucky, where he was joined by Paul on stage. The montage included:
- Trump pronouncing Kentucky's name in an exaggerated country accent.
- Him explaining the word "excursion" in a simplistic manner.
- A request for "someone with a warm body" during the event.
- Trump asking for Ave Maria to be played on the venue's speakers.
Kimmel's monologue underscored his view that Trump's actions and words are out of touch with pressing national and international concerns, using comedy to highlight perceived failures in leadership and attention to detail.
