Hollyoaks Star Jorgie Porter Opens Up About Wedding Delay and Turning 40
Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter, best known for her role as Theresa McQueen, has shared heartfelt reasons for not rushing into marriage with fiancé Ollie Piotrowski, five years after their engagement in 2021. The 38-year-old star, who is approaching her milestone 40th birthday in December next year, admits mixed feelings about aging but remains proud of her achievements.
Reflecting on Life and Milestones
Jorgie Porter confesses that reaching the end of her 30s brought tears when someone "did the maths," yet she feels like a 20-year-old at heart. Her 30s were marked by significant events, including Ollie's proposal and the birth of their two children, Forest, aged three, and Peony, 14 months. She expresses appreciation for her journey, stating, "I look at my life and go, actually, I am a superstar in my own right, because I’ve done some really cool, fun things."
However, one regret lingers: not marrying in her 30s. Jorgie shares, "I was a bit gutted that I’m not going to be married in my 30s. The thought of being a 40-year-old bride, I was like damn. But weddings are so expensive now. I think you've got to be a middle-aged person with five jobs and a side hustle to afford it."
Prioritizing Family and Superstitions
Delaying the wedding has allowed the couple to focus on involving their young children in the celebration. Jorgie explains, "We wanted Peony to be able to walk, and she’s walking now. She’s the cutest little hip waddler." Despite this, she remains hesitant to set a date, citing superstitions and past experiences. "I'm not really good at planning things in life. I'll put something in my diary, I'll write it down on a calendar, and it will never happen. Call it superstitious, I don't know what it is, but honestly things never work out," she reveals.
Embracing Motherhood and Honesty
Juggling her role on Hollyoaks with raising two children under four, Jorgie has embraced the chaos of motherhood. She uses her Instagram platform to share brutally honest messages and tips for other parents, encouraging them to care less about others' opinions. "Nobody tells you the gritty, real truth about becoming a mum," she says, highlighting issues like public breastfeeding. Her goal is to empower other mothers: "I want other mums to have the confidence and the power to be like, ‘No, I want to do this for my child.’"
She emphasizes that every mother and child is different, sharing her own experiences with breastfeeding her two kids. "There's no right or wrong way to do anything," Jorgie asserts, noting the challenges of parenting two young children, including snatching and arguing between them.
Balancing Acting and Real-Life Parenting
On-screen, Jorgie's character Theresa McQueen is also a mother of two, but at different stages, with her eldest daughter turning 16 this year. This provides Jorgie a glimpse into the future with her own children. She jokes, "Theresa's dealing with a different type of parenting at the minute. So it's like the future, and I'm actually asking other people what's happening now at this age."
However, she notes that Theresa's parenting style contrasts sharply with her own. "Well, Theresa just left the country all the time, so she kind of didn't really raise her children," Jorgie says, adding that she often has to remind herself to act as Theresa rather than impose her personal values on the role.
Hollyoaks continues to air on E4 and is available for streaming on Channel 4's service, keeping fans engaged with Jorgie Porter's evolving storyline.
