Joel Dommett, the comedian currently appearing on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, has opened up about a 2016 catfish extortion scandal involving a leaked sex tape. In a candid account, Dommett described himself as 'Internet Naive' and susceptible to what he called 'erection-based blackmail'.
The incident began three years ago when a woman named 'Staci Taylor' contacted him on Twitter. They quickly moved to Skype, where Dommett engaged in what he thought was Skype sex, but later discovered the woman was actually recording him. He said, 'It turns out I wasn't having Skype sex at all, instead someone was basically watching me watching porn.'
Two years later, an account called '@CelebbustedUK' contacted him, claiming to have naked pictures. Dommett ignored the initial threat, but when they messaged him again, he engaged in a humorous exchange before realising the severity. He noted that the video was actually of someone else, likely a porn star, but the extortion attempt was real.
Dommett chose not to pay the blackmailers, understanding that no payment would make the problem disappear. The story was covered by tabloids including The Daily Star and The Mirror, though Dommett was not named due to his lower profile at the time. He reflected on the experience as a lesson in the dangers of online interactions.
