Iran Military Warns of Attack on US Forces Entering Hormuz Strait
Iran Warns of Attack on US in Hormuz Strait

The head of Iran's military unified command has issued a stark warning, stating that any US or foreign armed forces entering the Strait of Hormuz will be attacked. The command explicitly cautioned US forces to stay clear of the strategic waterway, vowing a harsh response to any perceived threat. Commercial ships and oil tankers were advised to refrain from movement without prior coordination with Iran's military.

Iran's Stance on Strait Security

Ali Abdollahi, the head of the forces' unified command, reiterated Iran's position in a statement quoted by Reuters. He emphasized that the security of the Strait of Hormuz lies firmly in Iranian hands and that safe passage for vessels requires coordination with the country's armed forces. Abdollahi warned: 'We have repeatedly said the security of the Strait of Hormuz is in our hands and that the safe passage of vessels needs to be coordinated with the armed forces. We warn that any foreign armed forces, especially the aggressive US army, will be attacked if they intend to approach and enter the Strait of Hormuz.'

This development comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with Iran asserting its control over one of the world's most critical oil transit chokepoints. The Strait of Hormuz, connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman, is vital for global energy supplies, handling about a fifth of the world's oil consumption. The warning signals a potential escalation in the ongoing standoff between Iran and the United States, which has seen increased military posturing in recent months.
