Israeli Military Claims Obliteration of Iranian Leader's Secret Bunker
The Israeli Defence Forces have asserted responsibility for a significant airstrike targeting an underground bunker in Tehran, purportedly designed as a secure emergency facility for Iran's former Supreme Leader Ali Hosseini Khamenei. According to IDF statements, the operation involved approximately 50 fighter jets deploying around 100 bombs on the site, described as being located beneath the leadership complex of the Iranian regime in the heart of the capital.
Video Evidence and Strategic Claims
Aerial footage released by the IDF captures the moment of impact, with bombs detonating over the complex and generating dense plumes of black smoke that engulfed Tehran's streets. The military claims the bunker, intended by Khamenei as a 'secure emergency asset before combat,' was still in active use by Iranian officials following his assassination. The compound reportedly featured multiple entry points and rooms for gatherings of senior regime members, spread across several streets.
There has been no immediate response from Iranian authorities regarding the strikes. This development occurs amid escalating regional tensions, with Israel continuing assaults on capitals including Tehran and Beirut.
Broader Regional Conflict Escalation
Concurrently, the United States military reported striking an Iranian drone carrier at sea, part of its campaign against Iran's naval fleet. The IRIS Shahid Bagheri, a converted container ship with a 180-metre runway for drones, was set ablaze following the attack. Admiral Brad Cooper of US Central Command likened the vessel to a World War II aircraft carrier, noting its fiery condition.
In Lebanon, hostilities have intensified, marking the heaviest bombardment since a 2024 ceasefire between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah. Tens of thousands have evacuated from Beirut's suburbs and southern Lebanon after Israeli warnings targeting Hezbollah, though casualties include civilians. Lebanon's health ministry confirmed five deaths and seven injuries from an Israeli strike in Sidon, with total casualties rising to 123 killed and 683 wounded as of Thursday evening.
Retaliatory Actions and Ongoing Strikes
Iran has launched new retaliatory attacks in the Middle East after a week of sustained bombardment. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth warned that the conflict is 'about to surge dramatically.' Israel's military announced the commencement of 'a broad-scale wave of strikes' on Tehran, with witnesses reporting intense attacks that caused homes to quake and explosions near missile bases in Kermanshah.
The situation remains fluid, with no clear resolution in sight as military actions persist across the region.
