Jason Elvie Ty, known professionally as Misua, has died at the age of 27. The drag queen passed away in her sleep on 2 April in the Philippines, according to a statement from production company World of Wonder. A cause of death has not been announced.
Misua had been cast in the upcoming fourth season of Drag Race Philippines, which was due to begin filming. Production has been paused to support the cast and crew. World of Wonder said: 'She brought light, artistry, and joy to those around her, and she will be deeply missed.'
Her family posted a tribute on Facebook, describing her as 'a dearly loved son, brother, friend, mentor, and most of all, a star'. Tributes also came from fellow drag performers, including Hannah Conda and Blu Hydrangea, who expressed their devastation.
Misua, from Cagayan de Oro, had performed for eight years and worked as a graphic designer. She described her drag as 'rooted in fashion, artistry, and self-expression'. Her stage name was inspired by her grandfather’s comfort food, a type of noodle.
