Buswell and Sugg first met when partnered together on Strictly Come Dancing, and later confirmed their romance after the show. They announced they were expecting in September 2025, with a video showing three stick figures painted by the couple, signalling the arrival of their baby in 2026.

Dianne had previously spoken about balancing motherhood with her demanding career, saying she would happily take a break from dancing. She also faced criticism during her pregnancy for continuing to perform, responding to a negative comment by saying: "I can't believe in 2025 things like this are still being said."
