David Haye Stands Firm on I'm A Celebrity Controversies
Former heavyweight boxing champion David Haye has broken his silence following his stint on ITV's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! All Stars, where he faced accusations of bullying co-star Adam Thomas and sparking a sexism row with comments about his girlfriend. In a candid new interview, Haye has not only defended his actions but doubled down on nearly every contentious remark made during his time in the jungle.
The Adam Thomas Dig and Health Comments
Haye was accused of targeting Emmerdale actor Adam Thomas with a series of digs during the show. Thomas, who was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis in 2023, struggled with fatigue and dehydration in the jungle. Haye has since denied any knowledge of Thomas's condition but showed little sympathy, stating he "couldn't care less" about his health.
In his interview with The Sun, Haye suggested that people often use medical conditions as excuses, saying, "Everyone’s got something. If you go to the doctor and say, I don’t feel well because of this, that, the other, they’ll prescribe you something, give you some pills, and now you’ve got this thing to hold on to." He added that Thomas was "jumping around" and "dancing", implying inconsistency in his health claims.
Bullying Claims and 'Banter' Defense
Despite allegations of bullying, Haye insists his behavior was merely "banter to another guy who was nearly 40 years old". He dismissed critics, stating, "Do I care about people that don’t like me saying what I really think? No, I couldn’t give a s***," before labeling Thomas as "soft" and "brittle-spirited".
Haye compared Thomas to a "kind of chihuahua", describing him as cute but ineffective, in contrast to himself as a "doberman or a boxer or a pit bull". He also referenced a TikTok dance video of Thomas and his brothers, calling it a "feminine thing".
Therapy Snub and Push-Up Advice
In a recent podcast, Adam Thomas revealed that he sought therapy after the show, explaining how the experience "changed me" and left him mentally affected. Haye responded dismissively, arguing that Thomas doesn't need therapy but "needs to do some push-ups".
"He needs to get out there and get in amongst other males who are powerful, who do stuff and don’t sit there talking all the goddamned time about how hard life is," Haye asserted, doubling down on his critique of Thomas's resilience.
Sexism Row Over Girlfriend Comments
Haye also faced backlash for comments about his girlfriend, Sian Osbourne, whom he described as having the "personality of a proper ugly bird". Rather than retracting his words, Haye has reinforced his stance, claiming that "ugly chicks" develop better personalities due to facing more challenges in life.
"If you’ve got ten supermodels who’ve been stunning since they were little, everyone’s like, ‘Whatever you want, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,'" he said. "Then you get ten busted-up, ugly chicks and they’ve had to work for everything... I’m saying my girlfriend has a personality of an ugly bird, which sounds harsh when you say it, but it’s just how it is, it’s the truth and people don’t like the truth."
Post-Show Reconciliation and Flight Incident
Despite the ongoing feud, Haye claims to have attempted reconciliation with Thomas on their flight home from Australia. He revealed that after Thomas snubbed him pre-flight, Haye deliberately sat next to him for the ten-hour journey to "wind him up" with more banter.
"But, we actually talked and I explained to him this is just who I am and where I’ve been. I did apologise. But we had a laugh, we had a laugh at the end of it. I think at the end of the flight he was like, ‘OK, I’m glad,'" Haye recounted, suggesting a tentative resolution.
Broader Implications and Public Reaction
Haye's unwavering defense of his jungle behavior has sparked further debate about bullying, mental health, and sexism in reality TV. His comments highlight a clash of cultures between his boxing background and the sensitivities of modern celebrity environments. As the controversy continues to unfold, public opinion remains divided, with some viewing Haye as brutally honest and others as needlessly provocative.
