Hollywood star Chris Pratt has revealed that a significant set from the blockbuster film Jurassic World was destroyed during the catastrophic storms that battered Hawaii last month. The 46-year-old actor, who played velociraptor trainer Owen Grady in the 2015 original movie, shared the news while promoting his new animated film, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, with co-star Charlie Day.
Storm Damage to Iconic Filming Location
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly published on Thursday, Pratt was shown a photograph of himself riding a motorcycle as his character Owen Grady. Upon seeing the image, he disclosed that he had just received a text message from his friend Jason Morgan, who lives on the ranch where the scene was filmed. Pratt explained that a tree had fallen on the building that served as Owen's bungalow in the film, completely destroying it.
The actor stated clearly: "That was destroyed yesterday." The location in question is on the island of Oahu, where substantial portions of Jurassic World were filmed over a decade ago. The area has recently been hit by consecutive and dangerous Kona low storm systems, which triggered severe flooding and multiple landslides across the region.
Connection to Kualoa Ranch
Pratt's friend, Jason Morgan, is the son of John Morgan, who serves as president of the renowned Kualoa Ranch. This 4,000-acre private nature reserve and working cattle ranch is located on the windward coast of Oahu and served as a primary filming location for the Jurassic World movie. Pratt expressed his sympathy, adding, "Sorry, Jason," regarding the damage to the property.

The destruction of the Jurassic World set is just one example of the extensive damage caused by the severe weather events in Hawaii. Just over a week before Pratt's revelation, Aquaman actor Jason Momoa announced that he and his family had to evacuate from Oahu due to the dangerous conditions.
Momoa shared on Instagram in late March: "I got my family. We got out of the North Shore. Our power went off. We're safe for now, but there's a lot of people who weren't, so we're sending all our love." He described the situation as "pretty gnarly" and urged everyone to stay safe.

In response to the disaster, Jason Momoa has been working with Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammett to organize relief efforts for affected residents. The actors are planning a benefit concert scheduled for April 23, following what has been described as the worst flooding to hit Hawaii in more than twenty years.
According to Governor Josh Green, who spoke to BBC on March 22, the heavy rainfall and flash floods have caused an estimated one billion dollars worth of damage across the Hawaiian islands.
