A woman from Cincinnati, Ohio, who was so addicted to vaping that she showered with her e-cigarette, almost died when her lungs collapsed and black goo poured out of her mouth and nose.
Jordan Brielle, 32, had smoked cigarettes since her teenage years but switched to vaping in 2021. She soon became addicted, spending up to $500 (£379) a week on the habit. In November 2023, she began feeling a heaviness in her chest and visited hospital two or three times a week with breathing problems, yet continued to vape.
In May 2024, her partner found her unresponsive in bed with black mucus dripping from her nose and mouth. At hospital, doctors suctioned two litres of black fluid from her lungs and placed her in a medically induced coma for 11 days. Medics discovered her lungs were severely damaged from smoking and vaping.
Ms Brielle said: 'My body was trying to force out the vape juice inside my lungs which was like concrete. It was pure black and bloody.' She has not vaped since and now warns others to avoid the habit.
