While Adele appeared in high spirits, Justin Bieber's performance drew heavy criticism from fans. The singer sat on a stool and played a 12-song medley from a laptop, scrolling through YouTube videos of his hits. Some viewers branded the set 'lazy', with one writing on X: 'Not Justin Bieber scammed Coachella out of $10 million to play songs off of YouTube.'
Katy Perry, who watched the set alongside former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, made a thinly veiled dig on Instagram. In a video, she joked: 'Thank God he has premium. I don't want to see no ads.' Despite the backlash, Bieber reportedly earned around £7.5 million for his appearance.
