A food-related question on the latest episode of ITV's The 1% Club left host Lee Mack astonished after 19 contestants were eliminated. The question, classified as an 80% difficulty, read: 'What common food below has had its letters rearranged into alphabetical order? ABDER.'
Mack reacted with surprise, saying: 'Good God. I mean sorry, unlucky those of you who are out. We lost 19 on that one!' He added: 'I'm surprised, I have to be honest that so many people went out on that. That doesn't help but I'm only being honest.'
The same episode also saw a record number of passes used on a question about swapping letters to form a new valid word. The question offered three options: conversation, dialogue, and chat. Contestants used 46 passes collectively, prompting Mack to note the record. The correct answer was 'conversation', as swapping the 'v' and 's' yields 'conservation'.
The 1% Club, which first aired in 2022, has become a Saturday night favourite. Despite its popularity, only two contestants have won £99,000, and no one has yet claimed the top prize of £100,000. The show airs Saturdays on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.
