Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has issued a stark warning, suggesting that Russia could use the occupied Donbas region as a strategic springboard to escalate its war against Ukraine. Speaking at a press briefing, Zelenskyy emphasised that the situation in eastern Ukraine remains volatile, with Russian forces continuing to build up military presence.
The Donbas as a Strategic Foothold
Zelenskyy highlighted that Russia's control over Donbas provides it with a geographical advantage, potentially enabling further advances into Ukrainian territory. "This isn't just about Donbas," he stated. "It's about Russia's ambition to destabilise the entire region."

The Ukrainian leader called for increased Western support, urging allies to provide advanced weaponry and impose stricter sanctions on Moscow. "We need action, not just words," Zelenskyy stressed, pointing to recent intelligence reports of Russian troop movements.
