TalkTV aired an urgent World War 3 warning as presenter Jeremy Kyle grilled a Conservative shadow minister on Kemi Badenoch’s plans to build an Iron Dome defence system. Kyle was interviewing shadow defence secretary James Cartlidge live from the Tory conference in Birmingham when he insisted the “threat” of conflict could hit as soon as 2030.
Kyle presses Cartlidge on Iron Dome coverage
During the segment, Kyle said: “There are questions from my listeners, and that’s what’s great about you being on, because whilst there’s acknowledgement that this dome is you guys addressing something that’s essential to so many listeners and viewers on the day that Andy Burnham considers yet another delay on making crucial decisions.
“A few questions – this dome, £10billion, how much of Britain would it cover, James Cartlidge?” he asked.
Cartlidge admits no current system
Cartlidge replied: “The first thing to say, and I’ll be absolutely as transparent as I can with you, because we don’t have a system like this at the moment.
“Obviously on day one you wouldn’t suddenly have coverage of every single square metre of the United Kingdom. It goes without saying.
“This has to be deliverable. We have to set priorities if we’re going to deliver it quickly. The threat, in our view, is very near. It could be as soon as 2030. We’ve still got war in Europe and in the Middle East.
“The way this would work, we’d have a plan to cut welfare to fund defence. On the back of that plan, we as a party could then make decisions like I used to make as minister for defence procurement, to order the systems we need.”
Viewers react to Iron Dome plan
Viewers were divided in the comments, with one tweeting in response: “It will take at least 10 years and £40billion to create an Iron Dome over the UK.”
Another posted: “Couldn’t stop boats, but can build an Iron Dome. Absolute nonsense.”
While somebody else said: “The Conservative Party will build f*** all as 3rd or 4th party according to polls!”
