The individual was last seen on board the ship late on Friday evening, around 10.30pm. The alarm was raised in the early hours of Saturday morning, prompting an immediate distress call to the Irish Coast Guard.

At the time the alert was issued, the Royal Navy support vessel was positioned to the north of Tory Island.

Malin Head Coast Guard is leading the extensive operation, coordinating resources across a vast area of water between Tory Island, County Donegal, and Eagle Island, County Mayo.
